Post-mortem examinations on the bodies believed to be those of a missing celebrity florist and her disabled daughter have revealed they drowned.
The bodies were found on Wednesday by police divers searching a lake behind the home of Jude Richmond, 41, and her nine-year-old daughter Millie Whitehead-Richmond, who disappeared from their home in the Cotswolds village of South Cerney on Sunday evening.
Gloucestershire Police are treating the deaths as "unexplained".
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wasley said: "At this moment in time, we remain open-minded as to the circumstances to these deaths and are exploring a number of lines of inquiry to ascertain exactly what happened.
Police officers broke the news of the discovery to Mrs Richmond's estranged husband Nick Richmond at Heathrow Airport as he arrived back in the UK from Australia on Wednesday. He had spent the past month living in New Zealand.
It is thought Mrs Richmond was depressed after the breakdown of their relationship earlier this year.
Mr Wasley said the force is analysing forensic evidence and examining CCTV footage, mobile phone and computer records.
A Gloucestershire police spokeswoman said that following further consultation with a witness, it is now believed that a reported sighting of Mrs Richmond and Millie with a heavy-built man took place between 5pm and 5.15pm on Saturday, rather than Sunday as originally reported.
The spokeswoman said CCTV footage confirmed that the pair left Dobbie's Garden Centre in Siddington, near Cirencester, at approximately 4.35pm on Sunday and there was another sighting of them on that day.
She said: "Another witness has reported seeing Jude walking side by side with an as yet unidentified man in Silver Street, by the junction with Meadow Way, South Cerney, between 3pm and 3.30pm on Sunday, with Millie a few metres behind them. The man is described as in his 40s, with short dark hair."
