Ministry of Defence called to Harwich beach in Essex as unexploded device found

Ministry of Defence bomb disposal experts have been scrambled to an Essex beach after an unexploded device was discovered.

Essex Police closed a section of Harwich beach as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers were called.

The force said in a statement: “We have closed a section of Harwich beach near to West End Land [sic].

“It follows the discovery of what is believed to be an unexploded ordnance.

“A 100m cordon has been put in place. Please avoid this area.

“We have informed the Ministry of Defence's EOD unit and await their arrival.”

Sunday’s discovery followed an unexploded Second World War bomb being found in Paris, which caused major disruption to Eurostar trains between the French capital and London.
