New details of the likelihood of Britain being hit by a terrorist attack, a natural disaster or a pandemic will be unveiled.
The Government is publishing a "risk register" which compares the impact of a range of incidents, plus new information on the chances that they might take place. Some of the information has previously been kept secret.
But Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged to make more details available to the public when he published the National Security Strategy in March.
The document is expected to look at risks over the next five years, and provide advice to families and organisations on what they can do to protect themselves.
It will build on information contained in the "Preparing for Emergencies" booklet which was delivered to every household in the country in 2004.
A Cabinet Office spokeswoman said: "It looks at the whole range of risks and looks at them from a national perspective.
"It is the first time all of this has been brought together in this way."
It is understood the new booklet talks about threats in general terms and does not contain a list of facilities - such as power stations - which could be regarded as high-profile targets.
The document is also believed to contain information on how officials set about assessing threat levels.
The risk register is due to be updated annually.
