A football fan was left in shock after a woman on holiday gave him a fake phone number that ended up being Maya Jama’s.

Luke Worley, 28, was on holiday when he and his friends met a group of women in Kos, Greece.

Mr Worley asked one of the women for their number so that they could meet up again, and decided to call her the next day when England played Germany in their Euro 2020 match.

When he called the number, Mr Worley realised that it was fake and actually belonged to 26-year-old TV presenter, Ms Jama.

He told LADBible: “We were in a bar and we were a bit drunk - we’d been drinking all day, as you can imagine - and we tried calling these girls to see where they are.

"I tried to ring a normal phone call at first through WhatsApp because I was connected to the WiFi in the bar.

"It said ‘Connecting’ and then it just didn’t go through, it just crashed. So I thought I’d try a video call - it rang once, and Maya Jama answered."

Mr Worley told the publication that he initially thought the woman he’d met the night before was playing a prank on him, but it soon became clear that Ms Jama was as confused as he was.

He continued: "She was like, ‘Who are you?’

"And I was like, ‘Oh, I was calling for Sarah!’"

Ms Jama told him her name, and he replied: "I know who you are!"

He said the presenter was a “good sport” about the whole thing, and they ended up talking for a while before she got called away.

"We had a conversation, we spoke about the show that she’s doing at the minute with Crouchy - that’s what she was doing, she was getting ready for that,” he said.

"She was really nice about it, she couldn’t have been any better.

"A lot of people in the public eye would have probably just put the phone down or something or blocked my number."

The exchange came as Ms Jama recently signed a deal with sports streaming platform Dazn and fight promoter Matchroom to present from the ringside at boxing matches.

The Bristolian will join forces with sports broadcaster Mike Costello as he takes the reins as lead commentator.

She said: “I’ve always loved boxing and this is a whole new adventure for me, which I can’t wait to begin.

“I’m hoping to bring a new energy, flavour and vibe to one of my favourite sports.”
