A man's body has been found in a lake by divers searching for two missing friends believed to have been rescuing a dog.

Paul Lichfield, 30, from Raunds, Northamptonshire, and his friend Philip Surridge, 42, from Corby, Northamptonshire, were in the area of Brightwell Lake, near Rinstead, in Kettering, on Monday.

It is thought they were shooting in the area and may have gone into the lake after a dog ran into the water, Northamptonshire Police said.

Following an underwater search of the lake, police divers recovered the body of a man, who has not been formally identified.

Officers stopped the search on Tuesday night as weather conditions caused the lake to freeze over, making the operation dangerous.

They are due to resume the search.

The dog and a Renault vehicle have also been recovered.

The fire service was called at 5pm on Monday to reports of someone being in trouble in the water, but a water search by Spartan Rescue was hindered by the bad weather.
