Man killed in M-way lorry crash

12 April 2012

A man has died in a collision with a lorry which crashed through the central reservation of the M62, causing traffic chaos for thousands of commuters.

The lorry was travelling eastbound when it crossed over into the westbound carriageway and hit the car at junction 32, near Castleford, West Yorkshire.

Nine other vehicles were involved in the subsequent pile-up, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Long tailbacks built up as the M62 was closed in both directions between the Lofthouse interchange at junction 29, near Leeds and the A1 at junction 33, near Pontefract.

Many drivers sat in their stationary vehicles for more than three hours during the morning rush hour.
