Man in court over mini-moto death

12 April 2012

A man is due to appear in court charged in connection with the death of a three-year-old girl who was the passenger on a mini-moto bike.

George Franklin, 22, of Monks Dyke Road, Louth, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Abbie Perrin was sitting on the petrol tank of a mini-moto that was being ridden by Franklin when it collided with a pick-up truck shortly before 4pm on Monday.

Franklin, who is the partner of Abbie's mother, will appear before Boston Magistrates Court.

Following the accident close to her home, Abbie was taken to hospital in Grimsby but died shortly after her arrival.

Police said the bike was being ridden along a footpath when it was hit by a silver Ford Ranger pick-up truck emerging from a driveway.

Abbie's grandmother, Carol Pocklington, paid tribute to the youngster. She said: "We only had Abbie for three short years, but every day she was so full of fun and happy-go-lucky. She brightened up each and every day and was very friendly and outgoing and always had a smile on her face.

"The family are all totally and utterly devastated but we are pulling together and drawing strength from each other. Abbie will be missed by all so much."

Police said the mini-moto on which Abbie was riding was a red 110cc Honda scrambler-type bike.

Police said Franklin was not injured in the accident on Monks Dyke Road in Louth. The driver of the pick-up truck was also uninjured.
