Man held over £53m robbery missing

12 April 2012

A man arrested over Britain's biggest cash robbery has failed to answer bail, police said.

Sean Lupton was held on November 9 in connection with the £53 million Tonbridge Securitas depot raid in February.

He and a 26-year-old Ramsgate man, who was also detained in a dawn raid at his home on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, were released on bail until February 8.

Lupton, 46, was last seen when he attended a meeting in Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, Kent, at 6pm on December 12.

A missing persons inquiry was launched soon afterwards.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "He is still being treated as a missing person. No warrant has been issued for his arrest."

Police are investigating the possibility that he might have left the country after his van was found near Dover.

Eleven people are due to stand trial at the Old Bailey in April over the robbery. Most of the cash is still missing.
