Man held over Fearne Cotton threats

12 April 2012

A man was arrested and cautioned by police after Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton received threatening text messages.

Officers swooped on the 21-year-old man in Derby on Sunday after the threats were sent while Cotton presented the Official Chart Show with co-host Reggie Yates.

He was transferred to London for questioning and received a caution and a harassment warning, Scotland Yard said.

The Sun said Cotton, 27, was given a police escort home from the radio studios due to the "severe" nature of the messages.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with sending threatening SMS text messages. He subsequently received a caution.

"He also received a first issue harassment warning."

Former Top of the Pops presenter Cotton is due to take over Jo Whiley's weekday show on Radio 1 this September.
