Man arrested for attempted murder after woman ‘falls from height’ in Southend

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found on the ground outside a block of flats having fallen from a height.

The victim, in her 20s, suffered serious injuries in the fall outside Bewley Court, Southend at 6.30pm on Wednesday night.

Paramedics rushed her to hospital where she is in a critical condition.

A 26-year-old man, from Southend, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

DI Stewart Eastbrook, of Southend CID, is leading the investigation.

He said: “The investigation is in its early phase. At this stage, we believe this to be a contained and isolated incident, with no risk or threat to the wider public.

“There will be a very visible policing presence in the area throughout today and indeed in the coming days as we investigate the circumstances which led to this woman sustaining very serious injuries.”
