Local Elections 2019: Dogs flock to polling stations as owners cast their votes

1/10

Hundreds of people are posting pictures of their dogs at polling stations they cast their votes for the UK local elections in a hilarious Twitter trend.

Along with a stream of photos, pet owners have added captions expressing the allegiances, opinions and reactions of their pooches as they cast their ballots.

Polling stations are open across the country today for the biggest set of local elections in England’s four-year cycle, involving six mayors, 248 English councils, and 11 councils in Northern Ireland.

Twitter user Stuart Fisher put up a picture of his dog tied up outside a polling station and wrote: “Rupert about to vote for the barking mad candidate.”

Another owner posted a photo of her dog by a polling station sign saying: “Remy feels very strongly about voting cats out of Witham.

“I don’t have the heart to tell her that it wasn’t on anyone’s manifesto.”

Alison Ellebrook took a hilarious photo of her dog relieving himself, and wrote: “Not the look I was going for, but I think it accurately reflects how I feel about British politics right now.

On the other hand, a dog called Harvey was “out voting this morning, although he doesn’t look too happy about it,” his owner said.

Some Twitter users added Spin-off pictures including a cat and a duck lining up outside polling stations.

The London Ambulance Service launched a rival to the trend by publishing a photo of a pug or “pugamedic” and wrote: “we raise you.”

“DOGS. AT. AMBULANCE. STATIONS,” they joked.
