A letter which was simply addressed to 'Your man Henderson, that boy with the glasses', has incredibly made it to its intended recipient in Ireland.

The note travelled more than 80 miles across the country, from Belfast to Buncrana, before it was finally received by Barry Henderson via his wife Roisin.

A local postman who knew the couple somehow managed to decipher the extremely vague address on the letter's envelope, the Irish News reported.

The town listed, Buncrana, has a population of about 7,000 people.

The letter was addressed to: “Your man Henderson, that boy with the glasses who is doing a PhD up here at Queen’s in Belfast. Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland.”

The letter was sent by a friend of Mr Henderson, who is studying for a PhD in modern history at Queen's University in Belfast.

A postman passed it to his wife Roisin, a journalist at a local newspaper in Buncrana, the Inish Times.

The message inside simply read: "If this has arrived, you live in a village".

Sharing a picture of the letter on Facebook on Wednesday, Mrs Henderson wrote: "A guy Barry knows sent him this from Belfast, with that wee note included inside it.

"The postman delivered it to the Inish Times office when I was out, asking if it could possibly be for my husband. I think it's brilliant. Only in Donegal.

"Still, it's not as good as the letter that was sent - and successfully delivered! - to "The Fairies, Fairyland, Buncrana" a while back. Inishowen postmen are the best."

The couple's friends appeared amused by the delivery.

Grianan Swilly said: "A big praise to our postmen. And thanks for posting it Roisin. How wonderful."

Siobhán Turner said: "That is fantastic. It's great that on the envelope the queen is polity reminding you to use a postcode. Nice of her, but she clearly doesn't know Buncrana."

And Jenni Doherty wrote: "I've every respect for Postmen/women both sides of the border. They really are the business!"
