Leave.EU has been criticised for sharing a "horrendous" mocked-up image of Meghan and Harry branding the Prince "p****-whipped".

The doctored photo shows a woman, with Meghan's face edited onto the body, holding a whip around the neck of a man on his hands and knees, which has Harry's face imposed onto it.

The pro-Brexit campaign group, posting on Twitter, told its followers to share the post "if you're terribly sad to see the demise of Meghan Markle's husband, Harry".

After this they wrote: "P****-whipped?"

That was followed by a "thinking face emoji".

The post, shared earlier this afternoon on the day after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would step down as "senior" royals, swiftly faced a backlash as it was branded "very bad taste".

"Lost all respect for this account after this tweet. Very bad taste," wrote one.

Another said: "Seriously?! Take five minutes. Sit down and have a serious word with yourselves."

It was also described as "offensive" and "disgusting".

Some questioned what the post had to do with the group's eurosceptic agenda.

On said: "I voted leave, and I'm absolutely disgusted by this, gives leave voters a bad name."

The Standard has contacted Leave.EU for comment.
