Labour MP raps 12 days of Christmas rap with austerity lyric twist

Labour MP Diana Johnson has featured in a rap rendition of the 12 days of Christmas, featuring austerity linked lyrics.

The MP for Kingston upon Hull north, performs alongside the Beats Bus crew, an initiative to encourage the city’s young generation to speak out about their aspirations through music.

Ms Johnson wishes her viewers a “Merry Christmas” before introducing the song claiming it is a hip hop rendition “with a Hull twist.”

Throughout the song she is joined by the Beats Bus crew in multiple locations throughout the city.

Ms Johnson can be seen bopping to the music and rapping along to the music.

It mentions some of the hardworking projects around the town, opening with the line: “On the first day of Christmas Hull gave to me, the love and inspiration of the children’s university.”

The song then praises local food banks for helping local disadvantaged families.

Another line includes: “On the sixth day I got my universal credit and had to wait another six weeks to get it.

While another section of the song criticises rising travel costs.

“On the eighth day of Christmas, the travel costs are rising, the train’s late again and it’s not surprising.”

It then reference’s Hull being the city of culture.
