Thirteen people at a four-star hotel in Kent have been treated after reports of a gas leak in its swimming pool.

Firefighters were called to the Ashford International Hotel on Sunday after a number of guests reported having breathing problems.

Hotel staff evacuated guests before fire crews made the building safe. Paramedics and an ambulance hazard response team treated patients.

A woman was taken to hospital for further precautionary checks, while the other 12 guests were discharged at the scene, a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said its crews, as well as Public Health England and Ashford Borough Council, have launched an investigation into the incident.

The hotel, which has previously hosted a speech by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, remained open on Sunday evening.

A spokeswoman refused to comment on the incident.
