The Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon on the fifth day of the two-week tournament.

Kate, 39, attended the SW19 event dressed in a £795 navy and blue midi skirt from Alessandra Rich and tailored jacket by Canadian brand Smythe.

The duchess has been a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) since 2016, taking over the role from the Queen.

She has been a regular fixture at the tournament over the years and Friday is her first appearance at the championship this year.

The royal mother-of-three was joined by AELTC Chief Executive Sally Bolton and AELTC Committee Member and retired tennis player, Tim Henman, to watch Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares play against US player Nicholas Monroe and Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in their men’s doubles first-round match on court 14.

She later visited the kitchens on the grounds where she spoke with Executive Chef Adam Fargin about how the kitchen has been used by the AELTC over the past year to prepare and distribute 200 daily hot meals for the local community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It follows after a busy week of engagements for the royal family, with the Queen, Prince William and Princess Anne all starting the week in Scotland to mark Royal Week.

Kate joined William, and their eldest son, Prince George, to watch England win 2-0 against Germany at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night while the Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Thursday and has returned to the event on Friday.
