John Lewis may have spoilt the surprise of this year’s highly anticipated Christmas advert after reportedly putting out promotional toys three days early.

The advert, hailed by many as the start of the festive season, will be released tomorrow morning.

However, eagle-eyed shoppers at the company’s Canary Wharf store, in east London, spotted the apparent blunder on Tuesday.

One City worker took a sneaky snap of a cuddly monster after likening it to what is widely believed to be a teaser clip posted online.

The video, shared with hashtag #underthebed, shows a pair of huge googly eyes peeping through a crack in the dark.

It was mysteriously posted on Twitter on Monday from an account with the same name.

The shopper told the Sun: “I’ve seen the #underthebed hashtag and trailers. I thought it had to be character from the adverts.”

He added that he when he returned to the shop hours later the display had been removed.

John Lewis told the newspaper: “We do not comment on speculation about our Christmas adverts.”
