Jim’ll Fix It faked request to let paedophile on show

Convicted abuser: Keith Harding with Jimmy Savile on the Christmas 1980 episode of BBC’s Jim’ll Fix It

Jimmy Savile’s Jim’ll Fix It TV show faked a child’s request in order to give a paedophile a guest appearance, the BBC reported today.

Antiques expert Keith Harding appeared on the 1980 Christmas edition repairing a music box for a 13-year-old girl who had asked for it to be fixed.

But her brother, named only as Dean, told Radio 4’s Today programme: “She was asked to write that letter. My uncle was asked by his then girlfriend, who was a researcher at the BBC, if anybody in the family had a musical box. Obviously, the letter must have been done after the facts.”

Harding, who died in June, was filmed at his Islington workshop and the girl and her brother appeared in the studio with him and Savile.

Harding, who was convicted of indecent assault against four children aged eight and nine in the Fifities, was later granted the Freedom of the City of London. He was also a senior member of the Paedophile Information Exchange group.

Dean said he and his sister were chaperoned throughout their time on the show.
