An England fan left in a coma after reportedly being hit several times with an iron bar has been named.

Andrew Bache, 51, had to have his heart restarted after he was brutally attacked during violence between England and Russia fans in Marseilles on Saturday.

Shocking images showed Mr Bache, known as Pepe, as a bloody mess laid on the pavement as he received medical treatment.

A Just Giving page has raised nearly £5,000 for Mr Bache, a Portsmouth fan, and his brother is on his way to visit him in France along with other family members.

Posting on Facebook, his brother Dean said: “I have just had a call from the British Embassy and they said the hospital had informed them that his injuries are no longer life-threatening but could be life-changing.

“He is still in a serious condition and they won’t know the extent of his injuries till he is taken out of the induced coma.

“I was also told that the chief inspector of police has informed them that they have excellent CCTV footage of the attack and have identified those involved and pictures have been forwarded to the French police.”
