An Amazon worker who lost her "perfect" engagement ring while packing parcels is appealing to customers to check for it in their deliveries.

Jasmine Paget, 18, realised her diamond ring had vanished during her shift packing Prime parcels at an Amazon warehouse near Swansea on Saturday.

Ms Paget became engaged to fellow warehouse employee Josh Phillips on Valentine's Day this year when the 20-year-old proposed after a month-long romance.

The couple searched the surrounding area but found nothing.

Realising the ring most likely slipped off and landed in a box to be posted to a customer, the couple rushed to tell the warehouse manager.

The couple have launched a Europe-wide search

But despite the entire team joining in to help launch a "massive search", managers "shutting everything down" and stopping lorries from leaving, the ring had vanished.

Following advice from colleagues Ms Paget posted about her situation on Facebook, wriitng of her devestation and pleading for "anyone who receives an Amazon parcel with an engagement ring to please let me or Amazon know asap".

She told the Standard: "I felt my heart in my stomach. I can't even describe. I hoped it had just slipped off, or fallen on the floor, I didn't even want to have the thought of it going into a package and being sent out.

"I went to my managers, and told them 'my ring is in a package'.

"They stopped lorries going out and literally shut everything down to find it. They searched packages again. Obviously, with Prime orders they go straight out, so it was just gone. We ship to Germany too.

"Because this is out there now and people are sharing it... I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now. I'm just hoping that out of the kindness of their hearts someone will bring it back to me."

Mr Phillips, who proposed just weeks after the couple met because "when you know, you just know", said he initially could not believe the ring had been lost as the couple had joked about it happening.

He said: "I walked in, she was stood by my locker. I smiled at her and she said 'don't smile at me'. I asked why and she said 'I've lost my ring'. I said 'yeah, yeah, I bet you have' because the day before [we were joking] about losing the ring.

"She said 'honestly, I've been crying for the last hour, I've lost the ring, I can't find it'.

"Jas is upset about it, but I've tried giving her a laugh about it so she isn't upset about it. It's obviously got a lot of sentimental value to us, but she's so upset.

"Hopefully it will come back. We've heard stories about how someone sent a ring back before, so hopefully if someone does receive it, they do have the heart to sent it back."

Amazon has seen orders surge during the coronavirus lockdown in the UK due to consumers being unable to visit shops or avoiding supermarkets and opting instead for deliveries.

Chris Law, General Manager at Amazon Swansea, said: “As soon as we heard Jasmine had lost her engagement ring we immediately mounted an extensive search of the fulfilment centre and also appeal to customers to check the packaging of their items to see if the ring may be there.

"If anyone does find the ring, we’d ask them to contact our Customer Service team so we can reunite Jasmine with this precious item.”
