'Horrific' killing sparks reward

12 April 2012

Police hunting the killer of a singer who died in a "horrific attack" in a subway are offering a reward of £20,000 in connection with the case.

Ian Newtion, 45, from Fulham, south-west London, died after suffering a fatal wound to the throat from a broken beer bottle in an underpass in Greenford, west London, on March 22.

Mr Newtion, also known by his stage name Scoobie Santino, was a reggae singer who had found fame in the 1990s.

The delivery driver was heading home after finishing a gig at a nearby club when he was attacked.

He was found collapsed in a pool of blood by a member of the public at around 9am and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they made 10 further arrests on Thursday on suspicion of murder - teenagers aged between 14 and 17. They are in custody at west London police stations. A 17-year-old is already on police bail on suspicion of murder.

Scotland Yard revealed the reward on Thursday night's BBC Crimewatch programme.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Lee Presland said: "The investigation is progressing and inquiries are ongoing in relation to the murder.

"Any information given will be treated in confidence and a substantial reward is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of person(s) responsible for the murder."

Officers want to hear from anyone who saw Mr Newtion leave Rockware Avenue at approximately 7.45am on the day he died, or on the Greenford Road in the area of the roundabout. He was last seen alive by a jogger at the subway exit at approximately 7.55am and was described as looking agitated.
