Group of 13 migrants rescued from English Channel

A group of 13 migrants have been rescued off the coast of Dover this morning.

Border Force and HM Coastguard were informed of a small boat travelling across the Channel just after 9.30am.

A Home Office spokesman said officers were deployed and met the boat near Folkestone.

It said 13 people were brought ashore.

“The individuals are in the process of being transferred to the Kent Intake Unit,” he added.

A Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) spokesman confirmed it was involved in the incident.

He said: “The RNLI and HM Coastguard are involved with an incident off the Kent coast, working with Border Force and Kent Police.”
