Goody speaks of despair over cancer

12 April 2012

Jade Goody has described how she screamed and cried when doctors told her that she has just months to live.

The reality TV star was told on Friday that her cancer has become terminal.

She told the News of the World of the moment she found out there was no hope of recovery: "I couldn't breathe when they told me. I just screamed and cried and said, 'Can't anyone do anything to help me?'"

After learning the news, Goody's boyfriend Jack Tweed, 21, proposed to her - on the eve of Valentine's Day - at her hospital bedside, and the couple now plan to marry as soon as possible, her spokesman and close friend Max Clifford said.

Goody told the newspaper: "I love Jack with all my heart and I want to be his wife more than anything in the world. And I will be.

"He's devastated but he's really trying to hold it together for me. But as soon as he found out I was going to die he just said, 'Right then we're getting married. You're a special woman, I love you and I would be honoured to call you my wife. And I don't care if it's just for a few weeks'."

Goody, 27, who is in the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, London said she was desperate to spend what time she has left with Tweed and her two young children, Bobby, five, and Freddie, four.

Mr Clifford said that health permitting, the star plans to spend a few days at her Essex home with her family next week, but feels safer in hospital as doctors can control her pain.

Goody, originally from Bermondsey, south London, said: "I know they've done everything they can to help me and I'm grateful. But I really thought I might be OK."

However, she added: "I suppose there was this little part of me that didn't. Since my bowel operation last week the pain has been getting worse and worse and I still haven't been to the loo and I knew that was a bad sign. But I was still praying for a miracle."
