Girl, 11, leads Duchess of Cambridge on impromptu charity shop tour

The Duchess of Cambridge was led on an impromptu tour of a new charity shop by an 11-year-old girl.

Kate was opening the new East Anglia's Children's Hospices store in Norfolk when she met little Rebekah Hughes.

Rebekah, who has Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy, took the Duchess by the hand and led her around the shop.

The young tour guide steered Kate towards a display of handbags and jewellery before asking her to pick out her favourite piece.

Kate surveyed the display remarking there were "so many wonderful things", but chose a penguin brooch as her favourite, while Rebekah said she liked a silver Gant handbag best.

Rebekah's mother Annabel Hughes later said: "I think Kate got off lightly - Rebekah has a way of taking over and she's lucky she didn't have her trying on outfits in the changing room.

"She was brilliant with Rebekah and it was a really special moment."

Kate, who is royal patron of the charity, which has shops in Norfolk, Cambridge and Ipswich, picked out some items for her children after cutting the ribbon to open the new shop.

The Duchess, who was the shop's first customer, chose a book, Fireman Sam's Favourite Tales, for Prince George, and bought a Beatrix Potter Tom Kitten figurine as a present for Princess Charlotte.
