George and Amal Clooney give neighbours £45,000 compensation for noise caused by Berkshire home renovations

Generous: Power couple Amal and George Clooney are said to have given neighbours tens of thousands of pounds in compensation after noise caused by home renovation

George and Amal Clooney have reportedly given their neighbours £45,000 compensation for disturbance caused by renovations to their Berkshire village estate.

The deal included a holiday to Corfu, a six-week stay in a luxury hotel and a £30,000 lump sum, the Daily Mail reported.

John Grove, 58, and his wife Clare, 49, received the generous package that is also said to include a vacuum cleaner.

Refurbishment to the Clooney’s Grade II-listed building in Sonning began in 2015 and includes a construction of a 12-seater cinema and an astroturf tennis court.

For the Groves this meant a daily stream of diggers, lorries and trucks clogging up roads outside their home.

“It is a known fact in the village that the Clooneys’ closest neighbours were very stressed by the building work,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“But the Clooneys have given a lot back to the community since they moved in. They have been incredibly generous in compensating the Groves for the hassle of the building work.”

During the height of the work in September 2015, the Clooneys are said to have paid for the Groves to take a week-long break on the Greek island of Corfu.

Upon their return, they moved into The French Horn, a hotel and restaurant 300 yards from their home at the expense of the famous actors for six weeks, it was reported.

After marrying his wife, who is now pregnant with twins, Clooney bought his estate for £7.5million in 2014.

The couple submitted plans for a £12.5million refurbishment in March last year.

They were approved by South Oxfordshire District Council in May and for months, villagers endured a cacophony of building work.

The skyline was for a time dominated by a 200ft crane, and the nearby streets were full of HGVs and vans going to and from the home.
