Britain is set to by hit by winds of up to 70mph after last week's gales which claimed two lives and forced thousands to flee their homes.

From next Thursday, forecasters predict severe weather across central and southern Britain.

Gusts of 70mph are being predicted in central Britain. Forecasters say there is a 30 to 40 per cent risk of severe gales in the south.

Wind speeds in Wales could reach as high as 90mph.

Scotland faces further flood risks as well as 70mph gales in the north west of the country, potentially causing disruption on the roads and railways.

The Met Office issued an official warning this morning, saying there could be disruption to travel and outdoor events.

Two people died last week in the worst flooding the UK has seen in 60 years.

Homes fell into the sea in Norfolk, and there was transport chaos as all train services in Scotland were halted due to the weather.
