Mourners have gathered for the funeral of Steve Dymond, who died in a suspected suicide after appearing on the Jeremy Kyle Show.

The 63-year-old was laid to rest during low-key service at Kingston Cemetery in Portsmouth.

The service was arranged by the local council, sometimes known as a pauper's funeral, and attended by a handful of mourners.

Mr Dymond reportedly cut ties with his family before he died.

The short graveside service, led by Canon Bob White, vicar of St Mary's Church in Portsmouth, was attended by three women, a man and a girl.

Mr Dymond was found dead in May. His ex-partner said later that he failed an on-camera lie detector test that revealed he had been untruthful about cheating on her.

After paying their respects and laying single roses, the mourners comforted each other before leaving the cemetery arm in arm.

The confrontational talk show was pulled off air indefinitely by ITV following his death and bosses said they would not screen the episode due to be aired which featured Mr Dymond.

His family later defended the show’s producers saying they should not be blamed for Mr Dymond’s death.

His daughter, Amy Turner, told Sky News they “should not be punished for trying to help”.

She said the programme's makers "do not deserve this, it was not their fault".

After the show was cancelled, ITV’s chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said: "The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.

"Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond."
