Flowers are delivered to the family home of Ian Redmond, in Nelson, Lancashire, who was killed by a shark in the Seychelles on his honeymoon

The widow of honeymoon shark attack victim Ian Redmond is due to attend the funeral of her husband at the same church where they wed just over three weeks ago.

Gemma Redmond, 27, had walked down the aisle in her white wedding gown, beaming with smiles and clutching the hand of her new husband on the happy occasion earlier this month.

Later on Tuesday she will accompany the coffin bearing him on his final journey, supported by family and friends for the funeral service at St Michael's Church in Dalton, Lancashire.

She has written a special farewell to her husband which she plans to read during the service.

The Rev Tim Barton, who married the couple, said: "Tuesday is an opportunity for Gemma and the family to remember Ian and to give thanks for his life and the person he was.

"The whole community came together to share in the joy of Ian and Gemma's wedding and I am sure they will join me in offering prayers and support at this difficult time."

Just 10 days after the wedding while on honeymoon in the Seychelles, the 30-year old IT specialist, from Nelson, Lancashire, was savaged by a shark while swimming in the waters off Anse Lazio beach on Praslin, the second largest island in the archipelago.

He was quickly brought to shore and a French surgeon who was also on holiday gave first aid on the beach as his new wife looked on. But it is thought Mr Redmond had simply lost too much blood due to the massive injuries suffered in the attack.

Mrs Redmond, a primary school teacher from Dalton, had said the happy couple were having "so much fun" and were excited about their future life together, but the attack had left all who knew Mr Redmond "devastated and shocked".
