Faye Brookes said criticism from the Dancing On Ice judges puts "fire in my belly" as she revealed she and professional skating partner Hamish Gaman will dress up as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this weekend for a special Valentine-themed show.

The soap star is currently competing in the ITV programme where she and partner Mr Gaman will portray the royal couple.

"Dancing On Ice are going to be portraying the greatest love stories on ice and we have been given the honour of Kate and William,” Ms Brookes told Lorraine Kelly.

"I am in the full wedding dress and (to Mr Gaman) you have got the lovely coat, haven’t you?"

It comes after fans criticised the ITV show’s judges for their “unfair” comments on the duo’s Swan Lake performance last week.

While fans loved it, judge Ashley Banjo saying that it looked “too easy” — but Ms Brookes said she had not let negative comments from the judges discourage her.

"[The judges] are doing their job, they have to give us constructive criticism and I want them to. I want to get the very best out of this experience."

Mr Gaman was quick to sing the TV star’s praises and said she has seen her hard work pay off as she “became like a swan” during last week’s performance.

“It’s a dream come true. From day one Faye was like Bambi and she became like a swan last week,” he said. “She’s done everything I’ve asked and really seen the fruit of her labour.”

Ms Brookes added: “I’ve completely fallen in love with it and embraced this world that you’ve [Mr GAman] introduced me to. And thank goodness I have Hamish.

“It’s put a fire in my belly this week. I’m exhausted, I’m not gonna lie. This is the most difficult challenge I’ve taken on in my entire life. But that fire in my belly makes me wanna be better.”

Ms Brookes also revealed that she has been getting advice from her former co-star Jane Danson, who took part in the show in 2019.

She said: "I actually saw her back when we weren’t in lockdown. It was half-term and she had escaped to the ice to get back in her boots.

"She keeps saying she is still dreaming about this show, it is the best thing she ever did, and I absolutely agree with her."

Last weekend, comedian Matt Richardson was the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the show, following Olympian Graham Bell and musician Myleene Klass who was the very first celebrity to leave the competition.
