Ex-Corrie star Pivaro in gun probe

12 April 2012

A former Coronation Street star is to be questioned by detectives after a gun and ammunition were allegedly found during a raid at his home.

Nigel Pivaro, who played bad boy Terry Duckworth in the ITV1 soap, was not present when police raided two flats in Salford, Greater Manchester, at 11am on Friday.

The officers, who were acting on a tip-off, allegedly recovered a firearm and ammunition.

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) force has made arrangements to discuss the find with Pivaro, 46, after the weekend.

The force refused to confirm what was found during the raid, or that it was Pivaro's home.

A spokeswoman said: "As a result of the warrants being executed at two addresses in Ordsall, some items were recovered and are being examined.

"GMP has made arrangements to speak to the occupants of the addresses after the weekend. Enquiries are continuing and we cannot confirm anything else about the nature of these warrants at this stage."

But Pivaro, who has quit showbusiness to pursue a career in journalism, told the Manchester Evening News: "I'm shocked that they have been round to my property. I am going to see my solicitor to see where to go next."

The father-of-two first appeared in Coronation Street in 1983, as the wayward son of Jack and Vera Duckworth.

In 2003 he obtained a history degree from Salford University and this year he was awarded a Master's degree in terrorism and international relations from the University of Wales.
