Downton Abbey won acclaim and huge audiences for its attentively produced story lines of life upper-echelons of post-Edwardian society.

But it appears standards might be slipping ahead of series five of the hit ITV drama later this year.

Pictures released ahead of its return include one crucial giveaway to show the costume drama focusing on the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants may not be as authentic as it first appears.

The 1920s decor seems flawless - until attentive fans of the show take a closer look at the mantelpiece.

There, perched next to period ornaments, sits a large plastic water bottle - apparently left out during filming.

But such a mishap is unlikely to dampen expectations ahead of the return of the show, which hit an average of 11.8 million viewers during the last series.

The all-star cast, including Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith, is set be bolstered by Richard E. Grant when the show makes a comeback.
