Piers Morgan interviews Donald Trump: President says Meghan Markle was 'nasty' to him and that he hopes she 'enjoys her life'

Donald Trump has said Meghan Markle is “very nice” even if she made “nasty comments” to him, in a wide-ranging interview with journalist Piers Morgan.

The US President said of Prince Harry's wife Meghan: "She was nasty to me.

"And that's OK for her to be nasty, it's not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn't.

"You know what? She's doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life... I think she's very nice.

"I hope she enjoys life."

Mr Trump made the comments ahead of today's trip to Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th D-Day invasion anniversary alongside European leaders. The events will be broadcast today, the third day of his state visit to the UK.

The President made the remarks about Meghan following an interview with The Sun last week in which he was asked for his thoughts on the royal who he claimed “wasn’t so nice” to him during the 2016 US presidential election.

Meghan did not attend any of the events Mr Trump attended during his visit because she is on leave from royal duties with her three week old son Archie.

"I think he's a terrific guy. The royal family is really nice," he said. "He couldn't have been nicer."

Mr Trump and his wife Melania dined with the queen and her family on Monday at a state banquet. He toasted the queen at the dinner and on Tuesday described her as a fantastic person.

In the wide ranging interview, the President discussed the NHS, Iran, climate change and Brexit.

He said despite his differences with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn the US would still do a trade deal with the UK if he became Prime Minister.

Mr Trump then back flipped on his earlier comments at a press conference with Prime Minister Theresa May that the NHS would be "on the table" in a trade deal.

"I don't see it as being on the table. Somebody asked me a question today and I said 'everything's up for negotiation' because everything is but that's not something I would consider being a part of trade, that's not trade."

Mr Trump also said he discussed climate change with Prince Charles, who he believes is "a very good person" who "wants to have a world that's good for future generations".

"I totally listened to him (about climate change)," he said.

"I did say the United States right now has among the cleanest climates there are based on statistics and its even getting better.

"I agree with that I want the best water, the cleanest water, crystal clean."

When asked whether he believed in climate change, he said: "I believe there's a change in weather, I think it changes in both ways. It used to be called global warming, that wasn't working. Then it was called climate change now its actually called extreme weather because with extreme weather you can't miss."

Speaking on gun violence, Mr Trump said unarmed civilians are "sitting ducks" and do not stand a chance when faced with "bad guys" with guns.

He added if people were armed during the Paris attacks "it would never have happened"

Mr Trump also brought up the number of stabbings in London, saying "your hospital is a sea of blood".

Mr Trump also said despite protests he still loves the UK, saying "I think I have a very good relationship with the people in the United Kingdom."

Asked whether there were any presidential candidates that worried him ahead of the upcoming 2020 election he said: "There's no Winston Churchill in the group, let's put it that way."

He added that he has "all the cards" when it comes to winning.

"I'm running on maybe the greatest economy we've ever had," he said.

"I have all the cards. We're the piggy bank. We're the bank that everyone wants to steal from and rob. And when you have that you have the cards. And I do have the cards."

Before the interview was broadcast, Mr Morgan tweeted the president was "kept very well updated on Arsenal".

He was responding to a comment by political reporter Jake Lahut who said: "Besides it being remarkable that @piersmorgan has snagged this many sit-down interviews w/ POTUS, I'm genuinely curious if Trump knows anything about Arsenal from his youngest son being a fan, and whether he can put Kroenke on blast with a tweet to invest in the transfer window."

Mr Morgan replied: "President Trump follows me on Twitter so is kept very well updated on Arsenal."
