A man died after a dog attack at a kennels - just days before Christmas.

Adam Watts, 55, died after he was attacked by an animal at Kennels and Cattery in Kirkton of Auchterhouse - the kennels which he ran to rescue and rehome badly abused dogs.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Kirkton of Auchterhouse in Angus at around 1.10pm on Wednesday.

The dad was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

He is survived by five sons.

Tributes remembered Mr Watt’s lovely character, with one person who knew him describing him as “one of the world’s gems”.

Jayne Dendle, who knew Mr Watts through work, paid tribute to him on the radio.

She told BBC Scotland’s Fiona Stalker Drivetime: “He was one of the world’s gems. As far as the dogs were concerned he would spend so much time with them, just building up their trust and turning dogs around.

“He was such a calm character that he could just win the dogs over. Obviously there’s been a terrible, terrible tragedy and we don’t know the circumstances but he just really did have a gift with the dogs.

“He never saw a dog as a bad dog - it was always the dog had had a bad upbringing or was there under sad circumstances. He would give a dog every chance he could.”

The dog involved in the attack has not yet been revealed.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
