D-Day veteran, 93, who told Melania Trump she was 'nice' turns his charm on Susanna Reid on GMB

A veteran who went viral after telling Melania Trump that she was "nice" has turned his charm on Susanna Reid during his interview on Good Morning Britain.

Thomas Cuthbert, 93 was joined by his daughter Carole Monk on the show, where he told Ms Reid she was “as beautiful” as the First Lady.

It came after he met Donald Trump and the First Lady on Wednesday during the D-Day commemoration ceremony in Portsmouth.

Footage of the meeting went viral when the veteran said to Mr Trump of his wife: “She’s nice isn’t she. If it wasn’t for you and if I was 20 years younger...”

The 93-year-old said TV host Susannah Reid was "as beautiful" as Mrs Trump.

Shaking the veteran’s hand, the US leader replied: “You could handle it, no question” as Mrs Trump laughed along.

During this morning's interview on GMB, co-host Piers Morgan asked Mr Cuthbert why he decided to try his luck with Mrs Trump.

He replied: “I don’t know. Mind you, she’s a very attractive lady. That’s what it was. Much taller than me though.”

Mr Morgan then told viewers that, when Mr Cuthbert met Ms Reid during the break, he also gave her a “big hug and a kiss” and “basically did the same thing”.

The 93-year-old responded saying that the TV host is “as beautiful” as the First Lady.

Mr Morgan then pointed out that Ms Reid was single, since she recently split from Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish.

Mr Cuthbert replied: “Is she? Well it shouldn’t be too long.”

In response to his comments, Ms Reid said: “I love him. I love Thomas.”

After Wednesday’s reception, which was attended by the Queen and the Prince of Wales, Mr Cuthbert, from Elmstead Market, Essex, said Mr Trump "came across very well".

He added: "He surprised me, when you see someone on the TV but he seemed different, he seemed one of the boys. His wife was very pleasant as well."

Mr Cuthbert was awarded the Legion D'Honneur in May 2017 for his role in the D-Day landings, during which he served on a landing barge oiler anchored off shore from Utah and Omaha beaches.
