Davina McCall has been praised for shutting down a critic who told her to be “demure”, responding: “Growing old disgracefully is far more fun””.

The former Big Brother host, 53, posted a photo ahead of Saturday night’s broadcast of The Masked Singer, showing her posing with her hand on her hip while dressed in a white dress.

One viewer tweeted: “Old over sun-kissed woman should cover up ... stunning dress but not for the wrinkly crinkly... demure for the mature.”

On her profile, the woman, Sue Bazley, describes herself as “a very young oldie” and “definitely not woke” and has 11 followers.

McCall responded: “Really sorry. Absolutely no chance of demure over here sue... growing old disgracefully is far more fun [sic].”

After another user replied: “Is there any other way?!” Davina promptly said: “Nope”.

Several jumped in to defend the former Big Brother host.

One wrote: “Women writing off other Women - aren't we soooo tired of that c*** by now?!? Carry on being gorgeous Davina.”

Another said: “Davina looks amazing! I’m 27 and I wish I looked that now never mind in 20 years! Keep doing you Davina.”

During the episode, Cold Feet star John Thomson was revealed to be Bush Baby.

The actor and comedian, also known for his turns on The Fast Show and Men Behaving Badly, was unmasked after his performance of Please Release Me by Engelbert Humperdinck.

The panel had failed to guess his identity after he threw them off the scent with an Australian accent.

Asked by host Joel Dommett how he found performing in the mask, he joked: “I have to say as a northerner who doesn’t feel the cold, who is already covered in hair, it not been the greatest, there is a sense of relief.”

He added: “I got halfway which was perfect for me as I wasn’t in it to win it.

“I did it for fun and I was very grateful to be able to work during the pandemic. I was also very relieved as the costume was very, very hot and uncomfortable.”

The Masked Singer continues on ITV on Saturdays at 7pm.
