A professor whose two children crashed a live TV interview on BBC News has wished the British public a happy Christmas after his family shot to fame in the hilarious clip.

Professor Robert E Kelly was giving an interview about the political situation in South Korea when his toddler burst into the room and appeared to do a dance.

“I think one of your children’s just walked in,” the BBC presenter tells Professor Kelly.

“Pardon me, my apologies,” says the professor as the kids were rushed out.

Professor Kelly’s baby then glides into shot swiftly followed by his wife who ushers the couple’s children out of the room.

Amused viewers hailed the clip “brilliant” and praised the father’s ability to stay calm during his TV appearance.

On Saturday he shared an adorable snap of the family clad in Christmas hats and jumpers on Twitter.

He wrote: “Merry Christmas. To all the people who follow me because of the video or my children, thank you. We are flattered by your kindness.”

Fans were quick to reply thanking them for “one of the best internet moments of the year.”

One person wrote: “Thank you for providing the world with a much-needed moment of levity in a year that sorely needed it.”

Another added: “You’re welcome! But all thanks should really go to your wife — what a hero!”

Rebecca Allen said: “What a great family photo! Your wonderful video still makes me laugh —it's legend! Merry Christmas! #BBCkid”
