Each year, the Comedy Pet Photo Awards selects the best and funniest snaps of our beloved pets, as a tribute to how much light pets bring to their owners’ lives.

For 2023, the Comedy Pet Photo Awards has now published 25 of the very best images shortlisted for the year.

Among the top finalists, there is a cat performing his best victory pose, a dog pretending to be Zorro, a cat about to take a free kick, and a dog cuddling an orangutan.

First created by professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, the funny pet photo competition aims to celebrate the positive and vital role that pets have in our lives and to encourage engagement around animal welfare.

The 25 shortlisted images are now being evaluated by a panel of judges, made up of famous animal lovers, who will come together to decide the overall winner.

This year, the panel includes TV presenter, writer, conservationist, and animal lover Kate Humble, comedian, TV presenter, and writer Mel Geidroyc, TV vet and animal welfare campaigner Emma Milne, and professional pet photographer Elke Vogelsang.

You can take a look at the finalists below, and you can also get involved in choosing the winner. Just head to the Comedy Pet Photo Award website, and you can click on your favourite funny pet photo to vote for it in the People’s Choice Award.

“Once again, we have been treated to some really funny entries in the competition, and such a wide range of animals this year from ferrets to tortoises to donkeys as well as hundreds of hilarious cats and dogs,” Tom Sullam, co-founder of the Comedy Pets said.

“The job is now on to find the Overall Winner of Comedy Pets 2023 and, of course, the People’s Choice Award winner, where everyone can get involved.”

The 2023 Comedy Pet Winners will be announced on August 11.
