Fans of the famous Colin the Caterpillar cake have been left thrilled after M&S turned the treat into a trifle and released the recipe.
Marks & Spencer decided to celebrate Colin the Caterpillar's 30th birthday by transforming the cake into an "epic chocolate trifle".
In a post on its Facebook page, the retailer said: "Two words: Colin. Trifle.
"We’ve turned our Colin the Caterpillar cake into an EPIC chocolate trifle using the NEW Mini Colin Faces in honour of his 30th birthday celebrations (you’re welcome)."
The recipe involves creating a chocolate pudding and pouring custard over slices of the body of Colin's cake.
It also includes whipping cream, mini Colin face and lots of sprinkles.
Social media users were intrigued by the recipe.
One person wrote on Twitter: "Colin the Caterpillar is like the go-to on my birthday. Trifle a Christmas essential. Together?"
Another joked: "I am not sure I understand the ingredients ... what is this ‘left over Colin’?"
While another said the trifle treat was all of her "dreams come true".
Others were less convinced by the recipe, preferring to keep their trifle and Colin cake separate.
"Colin the Caterpillar is thirty, so Marks and Sparks have murdered him and buried his carcass in a trifle?!?" said one social media user.
"It really is the last days of the high street."
First launched in 1990 by Marks & Spencer as a celebration cake, Colin the Caterpillar cake has gone through quite a few transformations since his debut.
It started out as a simple chocolate sponge with a flat face, drawn-on face. It now has a white chocolate fast and sweets covering its chocolate body.
