Channel 4 set to create content for YouTube and social media platforms to attract younger audience

Channel 4

Channel 4 is to create content for YouTube and social media platforms in a drive to attract a younger audience, it revealed today.

The “digital-first” initiative will be aimed at 13 to 16-year-olds, many of whom spend more time online than they do watching TV, and will launch early next year.

Channel 4 said the strategy would include a “seven-figure investment” in original commissions for digital platforms.

The broadcaster’s digital creative unit will produce the content and will be based at Channel 4’s new national headquarters in Leeds.

Ian Katz, director of programmes, said: “Investing in a new teens strand is about making sure that a new generation, who spend an increasing amount of time consuming video on social platforms, continue to have a strong relationship with the Channel 4 brand.

“It will also play a vital role in filling a gap in the market’s provision of high quality, innovative and trusted public service content for this younger teens audience.”
