A video in which a courier was apparently caught "delivering" a package by launching it over a fence has gone viral.

The clip was recorded on CCTV security cameras installed at the home of sales engineer Mat Furber on Tuesday, who posted it to Twitter with the message: "Thank you for the smooth and safe delivery of my parcel today."

The footage shows a delivery worker nonchalantly walking up to Mr Furber's drive before casually lobbing the parcel over the wooden fence with two hands.

They then appear to pause for a moment to watch it flying over the fence - as if to make sure it reaches its destination - before sauntering off.

The clip - which was directed at delivery firm myHermes - has been retweeted or favourited more than 7,000 times and received hundreds of responses after being posted by Mr Furber, who works for a technology firm in Camberley, Surrey.

"Nothing quite like taking pride in your work," tweeter Matt Gibson wrote.

Daryl Ifode said: "I knew they were bad, but this is just crazy, they really do need to have a look at some of their staff tbh!"

Shaun Tomlinson added "What if it was his kid's toy smashed to smithereens?" while Amy V wrote: "Hey, at least it arrived."

In response, myHermes tweeted: "Good afternoon, I am sorry to see this and would like to apologise for the inconvenience this incident has caused."

The Evening Standard has approached myHermes for comment.
