Boris Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds has landed a communications job at a high-profile animal conservation charity.

Ms Symonds has been appointed the new head of communications at the Aspinall Foundation, which runs Port Lympne and Howletts wildlife parks in Kent, as first reported in the Sunday Telegraph.

In a statement released on Sunday, Damian Aspinall, chairman of the charity, said: “Carrie takes up her new role at an exciting time for the Foundation and we are delighted to have someone of her calibre on the team.

“She’s a passionate champion for wildlife and conservation, whose energy and expertise will be a huge asset to us. ”

The job is not expected to interfere with her role as an adviser at US-based environmental campaign group Oceana.

Ms Symonds has been an outspoken campaigner on animal rights, and in 2020 was named “person of the year” by animal rights organisation Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Peta gave its award to Ms Symonds at the end of last year, describing her as “a fearless force for good” in terms of animal welfare.

Ms Symonds has been an outspoken campaigner on animal rights and the fight against plastic pollution, and this year successfully pushed for supermarkets to stop selling Thai coconut products procured with monkey “slave labour”.

“Carrie Symonds is a fearless force for good when it comes to making the world a kinder place for animals,” Peta’s managing director Ingrid Newkirk was quoted as saying in The Daily Telegraph.

“Peta is delighted to honour her for using her platform to encourage people to spare a thought for our fellow animals whom we share this planet with.”

Ms Symonds has also campaigned against trophy hunting, the killing of puffins in Iceland, and is a patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Association.
