One of the main shopping streets in Cardiff was evacuated today after reports of a threat made to a hotel.
People in nearby shops and offices were ordered to stay inside and keep away from windows by police.
Speaking to North Wales Live, Chief Inspector Joe Jones later said there was a single incident at the hotel and assured people there was "no cause for panic".
A number of people were evacuated from nearby buildings "as a precaution", police said.
South Wales police posted online: "At about 3.15pm we received info that threats had been made to people in a hotel.
"A number of people have safely left the premises with no reports of injuries. A cordon is in place and nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution. The incident is on-going."
McDonald's, Subway, Tesco and other stores in the Morgan Arcade were closed temporarily by police.
The Camera Centre in the Arcade said: "If anyone is planning to visit our Cardiff store this afternoon please avoid doing so for the time being as the Arcade and much of St Mary Street has been closed."
People in flats nearby were also ordered to leave their homes.
Posting online about the incident, Labour MP Jo Stevens said: "Please keep safe and follow South Wales Police's advice.
"Very grateful to the police who are handing the situation in St Mary's Street with expertise."
The street was reopened at around 6pm by police, who said no-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing.
"The public are thanked for their cooperation and patience while the cordon was in place," a statement added.
