Summer will finally arrive over the next seven days after weeks of disappointing weather.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures will hit 25C (77F) next week, just in time for families taking a holiday in the UK.

Crowds gathering in Edinburgh for the wedding of Mike Tindall and Zara Phillips on Saturday can look forward to fine conditions with temperatures getting into the 20s in the Scottish capital.

Many places across the country will enjoy a hot spell, although constant sunshine is unlikely.

Claire Austin, forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "Saturday is looking fine across most places, with temperatures up to 22C (72F) in southern England.

"There will be one or two showers in Wales and south-west England."

The mercury will rise to 24C (75F) in the south on Sunday, reaching 25C in London on Tuesday.

Ms Austin added: "It's not going to be dry and settled. There's going to be some rain about, but it is turning a lot warmer than we've had in recent weeks."
