Banksy’s Brexit-themed mural that appeared on the side of a building in Dover could be torn down and sold.

The anonymous street artist’s large piece of artwork appeared close to the Kent port town’s ferry terminal on Sunday.

But the building the mural was scrawled on is due to be demolished, and owners said the work could be sold on.

Along with the Bankrobber Gallery in London, the owners of the property said they were looking at options for Banksy’s latest creation.

Its owners, the Goddens said: "We are exploring options for the retention, removal or sale of the piece.

"We will look to benefit local charities with proceeds from any sale of the piece," added the family, which has a large property portfolio.

The Brexit-themed work shows a workman chipping away at one of the 12 stars on the European flag.

After it emerged, representatives for the elusive guerrilla artist from Bristol confirmed the piece was by him.

Dover District Council said it will be monitoring the artwork on CCTV after it was defaced, the BBC reported.

Another of Banksy’s murals, of a woman staring at an empty plinth, was removed from its original location and shipped to the US to be sold.

It was later returned to Folkestone in 2015, a year after it was created, following a lengthy High Court battle.
