A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a father-of-two who was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver.

The Birmingham teenager, who cannot be named, is accused of killing 24-year-old Sarfraz Khan.

He appeared at a youth court hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court, where he spoke only to give his name, address and date of birth.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, where he can apply for bail.

The case will then be committed to the youth court, where he will appear on Tuesday, magistrates told him.

Mr Khan, of Hodge Hill, Birmingham, died in hospital earlier this week, four days after being stabbed during an argument near a children's play area in the Sparkbrook area.
