Forty firefighters tackle blaze at 20-storey tower block in west London

Forty firefighters tackled a blaze on the 17th floor of a block of flats in west London on Thursday morning.

London Fire Brigade crews were called to the 20-storey building in Bourne Terrace, Maida Vale, at 9.55am.

Six fire engines were at the scene.

Video footage on social media showed smoke billowing from the windows of the flat in Gaydon House.

The brigade said it had taken 51 calls to the fire.

Fire crews from Paddington, North Kensington, Kensington, Euston and West Hampstead fire stations were called to the scene.

Neighbours are understood to have alerted each other to the fire.

The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage and is under investigation.

The London Fire Brigade said the fire was brought under control at 10.45am and there are no reports of any injuries.
