Body in car park closes rail line

12 April 2012

A major rail route was closed after a body was found in a station car park.

West Yorkshire Police said the main London to Leeds line had to be closed for two hours after the discovery of the dead man in the car park of Fitzwilliam station, near Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the death was being treated as suspicious and two men had been arrested.

She said: "The main Leeds to London railway line was closed for two hours while investigations took place.

"The train station had also been closed and will remain closed while the scene is examined. However, the line has reopened."

The body was found just before 1.45am.

The man was taken to Pontefract General Infirmary where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The two men arrested at the scene remain in custody.
