This was the heart-warming moment that a father told his son he was taking him on a family holiday to Egypt instead of boarding a plane alone for a business trip.

Gary May shocked his eight-year-old son Ethan with the news as the pair said a tearful goodbye at Gatwick airport.

The 41-year-old public speaker had been planning to fly to the Middle East for an event but decided to book flights for his family to visit Sharm el Sheikh when it was cancelled at the last-minute.

After telling his son they would be travelling abroad together, Ethan replies: "Thank you - I love you!" before leaping into Gary's arms and saying; "You're the best dad ever."

His partner Claire Day filmed the big reveal on July 25 and uploaded the video to the Monarch Airlines Facebook page this week.

It has since been shared thousands of times online.

Mr May said: “It’s brilliant to see that our video had such a positive reaction."

A Monarch airlines spokesperson said: "We are thrilled to have been part of such as special family moment – Ethan is a lovely boy who charmed all the cabin crew on board with his excitement at his very unexpected holiday.

"We are so pleased that this last minute booking has brought so much joy and we’re looking forward to welcoming Ethan and his family on board again soon."
