An independent investigation has been launched after a woman was killed by police officers hurtling along a dual-carriageway on way to an accident.

The 25-year-old died at the scene on the A41 between Paradise Orchard and Jackson Road, Aylesbury after a police vehicle struck her at 5.50pm on Friday.

Neither officer was injured in the crash.

The next of kin of the woman, who lived locally, are being supported by specially trained officers.

Thames Valley Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Chf Supt Tim Metcalfe said: “This is a tragic incident and my colleagues and I are keenly aware of the shock and impact for the woman’s family and friends. We are thinking of them all at this difficult time.

“Her family are being supported by specially trained officers, and we would ask for their privacy to be respected.

“Our officers, who were responding to the Waddesdon incident, are understandably distressed that this happened while they were carrying out their duties as police officers, going to the aid of others.

“It is too early to speculate on the cause of the collision, but we have made a mandatory referral to the IOPC, and they will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances.

“Thames Valley Police is fully co-operating with this investigation and will continue to do so, and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
