Andy Murray gives Queen’s winnings to cancer-stricken friend’s hospital

Andy Murray has donated his £75,000 winnings from his Queen’s Club victory to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, which is treating his best friend for cancer.

Immediately after his victory Murray took to the court again for an exhibition match alongside Boris Johnson and Sir Richard Branson that raised £200,000 for Rally Against Cancer and said: “My best friend Ross Hutchins was diagnosed with cancer about six months ago, he’s dealt with it incredibly well. He’s been so brave and just finished his last treatment on Thursday, so all the money we raise is going to the Royal Marsden.”

In January Murray dedicated his Brisbane International title victory to Hutchins, who was also his Davis Cup team-mate and former doubles partner and is battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Murray was overcome with emotion in his Brisbane winner’s speech and said: “He’s back home watching — you’re going to get through it” .
